Shopping orders that contain gift items

Customers have the option to create an order to send to someone else as a gift. If an order is placed as a gift, you’ll see the note “This order contains gift items” on the order details screen in the shopper app. 
 

 

When shopping for gift orders, you’ll be communicating with the member who placed it, not the gift recipient, about any out-of-stock items or substitutions. The gift recipient will receive a text message when the order is placed so they know a gift is on the way and when to expect it. If the order contains age-restricted items, the recipient will be notified that they need to present an ID at delivery.


FAQs

Do I need to package the gift order in a certain way? Is there gift packaging included?

  • No, you can deliver these items as you would for any other order. If the member has purchased a gift bag or box as part of the order and asks that you place the items in the gift packaging, you may choose to honor this request at your own discretion.


How should I communicate with the customer?

  • As with all orders, providing clear and proactive communication helps customers feel valued and is often what leads them to leave higher ratings and tips. Top shoppers suggest: 
    • Keeping customers updated when you’re on the way and reminding them that they can track the delivery in their app. 
    • Confirming when you’ve delivered their gift order to the recipient, and adding a thank you or best wishes to help their order feel special.

What should I do if the member asks me to text the recipient directly? 

  • For security reasons, it’s important that you only communicate with any customers via the shopper app as this prevents exposing your personal phone number. If a customer requests this, please kindly let them know that you can only communicate via the app.


What if the order contains age-restricted items and the gift recipient isn’t home?

  • If the gift recipient isn’t home to receive their order, you can kindly see if the member is alright with any non-age-restricted items being left at the recipient’s door and let the member know that the age-restricted items will need to be returned to the store.


How does a customer place a gift order?

  • Customers will enter the recipient’s address as the delivery address and build their cart. Next, they’ll tap Send as a gift at checkout and enter the recipient’s name, phone number, and any card or message that they’d like to include. The recipient will receive a message when their order is submitted and when it has been successfully delivered.
