Media 101: Shoppers

As a shopper with Shipt, you may be approached by curious members of the media such as reporters, broadcast hosts, or photographers. This guide provides tips, tricks, and guidelines for interacting with members of the media as a shopper.

Official Shipt Media Opportunities
Shipt’s Communications team loves to work with local press on many different Shipt-related stories, often featuring shoppers with Shipt. By connecting the media to the Shipt Communications team, we can ensure they have all of the most up-to-date information + photos they need to write a great story on Shipt, like this one in the Deseret News

As Shipt rapidly expands with new retailers, new markets and more zip codes, we have more opportunities than ever to engage with the media. From time to time, we may officially invite you to participate in a media opportunity for Shipt.

These opportunities are always voluntary but, if you’re interested, the Shipt Communications team will connect with you to explain the opportunity, the purpose of it, and provide you with helpful tips and tricks to make sure it’s the best experience possible.

How Shipt helps shoppers prepare for official media opportunities

We know there is so much our shoppers want to say about Shipt and their experiences with the company. At Shipt, we want you to be able to share your experiences with the world and feel comfortable while doing so — we work to ensure the best experience for shoppers, the media, and retail partners by:

  • Scheduling the media session around your availability so that you’re not inconvenienced and your orders aren’t impacted
  • Working with retailers to ensure proper in-store guidelines are followed during the interview;
  • Providing direct access to Shipt’s Press team
  • Providing resources to make the experience as exciting and comfortable as possible such as providing on-camera tips and helping shoppers prepare for and practice common talking points for typical media segments

Unofficial Shipt Media Opportunities

For unofficial media opportunities that arise, where the Shipt Communications team has not connected with you prior to your being approached, we ask that you direct that request to Shipt’s Communications team at press@shipt.com. The Shipt Communications team will respond to these requests within 24 - 48 hours.

We have also provided these suggestions to help ensure our shoppers aren’t ‘caught off guard’ or misquoted during unofficial interviews.

Tips for an unofficial media opportunity

  • Please direct all media request to Shipt’s Communications team at press@shipt.com.
  • If the media starts asking you questions, you can decide what you would like to share.
  • Sometimes, the media can take something you say out of context, so it is important to keep your comments straightforward. We recommend keeping it to a few short takeaways about your experience as a shopper so that they don’t interrupt your order.

Tips for recognizing the media

  • It’s not always obvious if you’re being approached by a member of the media.
  • They may approach you and ask simple questions such as, “Do you work for Shipt? Do you like it?,” just as a member of the community might.
  • You can find out whether the person is a Shipt member or a member of the media by asking questions such as, “Are you working on a story?” or “Are you interested in joining Shipt as a member or shopper?”

What can you do if you do not want to participate in an unofficial media opportunity, you’re not prepared to/don’t wish to answer?

  • If you feel uncomfortable, please contact Shipt Support immediately.
  • You may tell the person who has approached you that you’re not interested in being on camera today, but he/she can contact Shipt at press@shipt.com to schedule an interview with a shopper.
  • Samples responses
    • “I don’t have insight into that, please reach out to the Shipt Communications team at press@shipt.com.”
    • “Thank you but I'm not interested. However, you can get in touch with the Shipt Communications team at press@shipt.com to find another shopper who would be.”
