How is Shipt supporting shoppers' health and safety?

As the coronavirus vaccine becomes available across the country, we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our communities. That priority is why we immediately implemented no-contact delivery options at the start of the pandemic, created a health checklist in the shopper app, offered active shoppers a vaccine stipend through June 2021, and offered financial assistance for shoppers diagnosed, quarantined, or living with someone who tested positive through November 2022.


Door Drop-off Orders

  • To encourage social distancing and protect you as you continue to support the needs of members in your community, we implemented a new feature that defaults certain members' orders to be drop-off orders — these orders are to be dropped off at the member's door instead of handed off face-to-face.

  • If an order is not a dropoff order, you may ask the member if it would be okay for you to drop off their order outside their door out of an abundance of caution to avoid physical contact.
    *Note: Shoppers still need to hand off all Alcohol Delivery orders to members in order to scan their ID and collect their digital signature. Shoppers cannot complete the signature process for members when delivering alcohol.



Tips for Shopping and Delivering

As a shopper with Shipt, you may come into contact with many individuals in a variety of spaces throughout the day. Shipt recommends shoppers stay up to date on local and state news and adhere to those requirements whenever possible. In addition, we encourage all shoppers to consider the following recommendations:

  • Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth while shopping and delivering orders.
  • Keep your hands clean and avoid touching your face during and between shops.
    • Wipe off shopping cart handles prior to use.
    • Keep disinfectant wipes and/or hand sanitizer on hand to utilize between orders.
    • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Wear Shipt gear while completing orders to ensure efficiencies both outside and inside the store.
    • Some stores may have store entry capacity limits, where there are lines to enter the store. Wearing Shipt gear can help store associates identify you as a shopper with Shipt, where you are able to bypass the line to enter the store.
    • Wearing Shipt gear can also help you get in-store assistance from store associates.
  • Maintain a safe distance between yourself and other people.
    • The CDC recommends staying at least 6 feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people.
    • If a door drop-off is not already requested, you may ask the member if they would be okay with you dropping off their order at the door to limit in-person contact.


Using Face Coverings and Reusable Bags


In accordance with recommendations from the CDC to help slow the spread of the virus, many states are requiring cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are challenging to maintain, such as grocery stores and pharmacies, and in areas of significant community-based transmission.

Some states and retailers are also mandating the disuse of reusable bags while shopping, where all items will need to be bagged in single-use paper or plastic bags. To accommodate this provision, shoppers should consider leaving reusable bags in their cars and placing temperature-sensitive items in them while loading their vehicles for delivery.



Areas with Shelter-in-Place Restrictions


As a business that enables the delivery of groceries and over-the-counter medications, Shipt is considered an essential service provider. Shipt is monitoring shelter in place orders nationwide and will provide updates should Shipt's standing as an essential service provider change.

For areas that have shelter-in-place orders, we recommend saving Shipt's Essential Services Provider letter on your phone to have on-hand if needed.
