New member welcome gifts from Shipt

Shipt is currently testing a new member gift feature in select metros.

If you have claimed an order for a new member who enabled the option to receive gifts from Shipt, you will be able to add a free welcome gift to their first order. While optional, adding a free gift can help provide a positive experience for new members, which may also lead to high ratings and tips.
*Note: This feature will only display for members who enabled free gift options. If they opted out, you will not see the option to add a free gift on their first order.

While the member will have enabled the option to receive gifts from Shipt, they will not know they will be receiving a welcome gift. You may choose to keep the welcome gift as a surprise until the time of hand-off or through a thank you text after you have dropped off their order.

Communicating that there is a gift with their items is key for creating a positive new member experience and preventing the member from thinking it is an incorrect or additional item was added to their order.

If a member opted-in to receiving complimentary gifts from Shipt, you will see a welcome gift banner displayed on the Order Details screen. Keep in mind, the gift cost is completely covered by Shipt — neither the member nor shopper will be responsible for paying for the gift.

To add a gift to a new member’s order:

  • From the welcome gift banner on the Order Details screen, tap Choose gift
  • You will see a list of gift options, which are chosen from the store location’s inventory.
  • Select a gift from the options, tap Add to shopping list.
*Note: Once a gift is added to the shopping list, it cannot be swapped out for another gift option.
  • The selected gift item will be added to the shopping list alongside other items the member ordered.
  • Gift items cannot be substituted from the member’s shopping list.
    • If the gift item you selected is out of stock, tap Mark as not found.
