Shopping for Beauty Products

When shopping for beauty products, you’ll notice a variety of products for makeup, skincare, hair, fragrance, bath & body, nails, and cosmetic tools/accessories.

Tips for selecting items in the store

When navigating the aisles to find a specific item, keep in mind that most retailers selling beauty products will have them divided into aisles and sections. Once you locate the aisle, then look for the brand section to find the specific item within it.

  • Some beauty products, like perfume and high-priced makeup, may be stocked in locked cases or peg-hooks. These items are eligible for delivery, however, a store associate will need to assist you.

  • Be sure to look for item notes in the app, which may provide further information on what specifically the member is looking for to ensure you get the correct item.

  • Inspect the packaging. Some beauty products may have been damaged or tampered with in the store.

Tips for substituting beauty products

When shopping for groceries, there are many comparable options for substitutions, but with beauty products, that may not always be the case. When members order beauty products from a retailer, they are looking for very specific items and will have strong preferences if the selected item is not available. Communication is key for ensuring substitution selections are a success.

If the member has not selected a backup item, you may use the tips below to guide your substitution suggestions:

  • Compare available products: When providing a substitution suggestion for beauty products, consider looking for other similar items within the same brand and/or that have a similar description, shade, price, and/or size.

  • Pay close attention to the cosmetic label: Many beauty products will have specific details about the product listed on the item’s packaging. Keep an eye out for words like waterproof, for oily/dry/combination skin, volumizing, SPF, etc.

  • Ask a store associate: If you’re unable to find the member’s selected item, consult a store associate for assistance. Store associates are experts in inventory and can help you pick the best substitute based on the member’s original item.
  • Send a photo: When in doubt, send the member a photo of substitution options and ask if they have another brand or product preference. Since beauty products have many nuances such as undertones and skin type, sending a photo will allow the member to see those particular details.
