General Merchandise is considered to be items not sold in the grocery section of a store, including items such as school supplies, electronics, makeup, etc.
Communication is very important when shopping for and delivering general merchandise. If you ever are unsure if a general merchandise item in the store is the same as the one requested, you can minimize the potential of an unsatisfied member and ensure delivery of the correct item by sending a picture of the item to the member to confirm it is accurate.
At this time, not all general merchandise items will be eligible for delivery.
- Most retailers have a 40lb limit on items eligible for delivery, however, some retailers may offer larger items. If you have claimed an order with heavy items and are unable to shop and deliver these orders, consider releasing the order in a timely manner directly from the app.
- Items like clothing may not be included in the store catalog but are eligible for delivery and can be ordered as special request items
- Some GM items, like jewelry and electronics, may be stocked in locked cases or peg-hooks. These items are eligible for delivery, however, a store associate will need to assist you
Substituting general merchandise items:
- You may customize the substitution message to provide clear messaging around alternative general merchandise items if needed
- When substituting for a general merchandise item, look for a similar item by a different brand that is around the same price as the original item
- For clothing items, consider asking the member if they would like the same item in a size smaller or larger if those options are available — if one of those options is not available, let the member know that instead of only recommending a smaller or larger size for them
