Shopping in Downtown Zones

There are several Shipt metros with zones located in the heart of vibrant downtown areas. To help shoppers complete orders in these zones, we’ve gathered some tips and tricks from top metropolitan shoppers.

Shopping in downtown store locations

  • Claiming an order from a retailer or location you may not be familiar with can be overwhelming. If you have claimed an order from a downtown location that you are not familiar with, consider setting aside extra time to visit the store to be comfortable and confident while you shop.
  • Review the order ahead of time to make a plan. Many shoppers find that planning ahead increases their efficiency and allows them to hit the ground running.
  • Give yourself more time to manage the increased congestion. Giving yourself an extra 15 minutes to account for longer checkout lines and in-store traffic can go a long way in ensuring you are able to deliver on time.
  • Downtown store locations often have smaller aisles and small store layouts. Consider using a hand-held basket for smaller orders. For larger orders, consider staging your shopping cart at the end of an aisle and using a hand-held basket to quickly maneuver through aisles instead of getting stuck in a traffic jam.
  • Be resourceful to cut time at the deli. If the deli requires you to take a number and wait in line, consider bringing a pad and pencil with you to write the requested items down. Many times you can hand your number and order to the store associate behind the counter, and they will take care of it while you continue to shop. Then you can pick it up on your way to checkout.
  • Plan ahead for parking. Many downtown retail locations only have paid parking, either on the street or in a deck or garage. Keep track of your receipt as some parking authorities will validate a ticket upon proof of purchase. If that isn’t available, consider safely storing a little cash or change in your car, and keep track of any parking fees you pay as they may be tax-deductible.

Delivering in downtown areas

  • Check the order notes on the order details page. Members will often leave important information about delivering there especially if they are located in apartments or condos. If you are having trouble finding parking, consider giving them a quick, friendly call as they often have the best knowledge on where to park.
  • Buildings downtown often have designated parking for deliveries. Consider asking the member if there is an area like this available when you send the On The Way text.
  • Play it safe and follow parking laws and regulations. Steer clear of accessible parking, fire lanes, private parking, and tow-away zones and keep some quarters on hand in case you can only find metered parking. Consider making a sign for your car that says Shipt Delivery, will return in 2 minutes so it can easily be identified as a delivery vehicle.
  • Bringing along a collapsible wagon or utility cart can make delivering significantly easier. Take care not to stack heavy products on top of more fragile ones, and tie bags to protect smaller items from falling out. Consider carrying a bike lock with you in case you need to leave your wagon outside.
