Using the Produce Scale at Meijer

To properly process a Meijer.com order, produce priced per pound must be weighed and the barcode label that is printed off from the self-service scale must be scanned.

Because the order is placed on Meijer.com, customers receive Meijer in-store prices, so there is no need to worry about the store price on the printed label.

When to use the self-service scale

Produce items will have pricing signage that indicates whether it is priced per pound or priced individually. Shoppers will take different steps depending on this pricing, and it’s important to follow these steps to ensure that the customer is charged correctly.

  • Items that are priced per pound, such as loose produce like bananas, or variable weight items such as bagged grapes, will need to be weighed using the self-service scale. Shoppers should scan the self-service scale generated barcode to add the item to their cart.*
*Note: Do not scan the barcode that is directly on loose produce or variable weight items — doing so will cause an order processing issue as the price per pound or quantity must be determined by the self-service scale.

  • Items that are sold individually and/or listed as “EA”, such as berries in plastic containers or bags of potatoes, can be scanned directly using the barcode on the item or container, and do not need to be weighed at the self-service scale.

Reviewing pricing signage

Here is an example of a produce item that would need to be weighed with the self-service scale. You can identify these items as they have an “LB” listed on the pricing signage.

How to use the self-service scale

  • Place the produce on the self-service scale

  • Tap on the provided categories on the self-service scale’s screen to navigate to the produce item you need to weigh

  • Tap on the image of the item and wait approximately 3-5 seconds for the barcode to populate

    • If the produce is weighed by quantity, enter the total number of items by using the keypad displayed on the screen

  • In the Shipt Shopper app, mark the item as found and then print and scan a label with the barcode. Shoppers should not scan the barcode on the screen, as it will not be finalized until the label is ready to print.
